Me and My Family
I’m Sarah and this is Chris. We met, we fell in love, we got married and back in July 2012, we had a beautiful baby boy Oscar.
I had fallen pregnant at 34 years old, he was my first baby and he was born with an undetected ASD (Atrial Septal Defect) and VSD (Ventricular Septal Defect) Heart Defects and unbeknownst to us, had Down Syndrome.
This blog is all about our journey so far and our experiences to come. I don’t profess to being the next Shakespeare, I’m really rather rubbish at grammar and spelling but I will talk from the heart and promise to tell the truth. I hope it will appeal to all walks of life, whether you have a child with additional needs or not. I am just like any mother, trying my best to figure it out, step by step.
My world was rocked. Ashamedly at first, I felt sad. I was grieving for the baby I THOUGHT I wanted but mostly, I felt an overwhelming fear of the unknown. Having Oscar has taught me about love. The unconditional, complete love you feel for your child. The love our family and friends have shown us. Determination, acceptance and inclusion. That there are no limits to what our children can achieve and that a friend was right all along, the smiles far far outweigh the tears.
Life can turn round in a second… It doesn’t always go the way we plan it too. But Chris and I have come off best, being blessed with our little man Oscar and actually…
life is pretty amazing.
